Length-weight relationships and condition factors of Mormyridae species in the Niger River: implications for conservation and management

Published in Limnology and Freshwater Biology, 2025

This study analyzed the length-weight relationships and condition factors of 14 Mormyridae species in the Niger River at Niamey. Results revealed negative allometric growth across species and highlighted the need for targeted conservation and sustainable fisheries management.

First Assessment of Mormyridae diversity and abundance in the Niger River at Niamey, Niger

Published in Moroccan Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2024

This study provides the first assessment of Mormyridae diversity and abundance in the Niger River at Niamey. Fifteen species across nine genera were inventoried, with Mormyrus rume being the most abundant. The findings highlight moderate diversity (H’ = 2.96) and key threats such as over-exploitation and anthropogenic disturbances.

Exploitation Parameters for the Mormyrus rume (Valenciennes, 1846) Population (Mormyridae fish) in the River Niger in Niamey (Niger, West Africa)

Published in Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, 2024

his study assessed the exploitation parameters of Mormyrus rume in the Niger River at Niamey to support sustainable management. Using FiSAT II and StatView, key metrics such as growth, mortality, and exploitation rates were estimated.
